Your First 30 Days in Central Florida: A Practical Moving Checklist

The boxes are only half the move. Use the first month to make the house—and the routine—feel local.

The boxes are only half the move. Use the first month to make the house—and the routine—feel local.

Week one: make the home work

Confirm utilities, internet, trash and recycling schedules, gate access, and any HOA procedures before the first workday. Locate the main water shutoff, learn the irrigation schedule, replace air-conditioning filters, and save the numbers for a trusted HVAC company and your insurance carrier. Florida homes reward small preventive habits.

Week two: build the daily map

Try two grocery stores, identify the nearest urgent care and pharmacy, and learn your preferred route to work or school at the time you will actually travel. Set up toll access if your routine uses toll roads. Save one alternate route before you need it; construction and weather can change the easy drive.

Weeks three and four: become a regular

Pick one neighborhood restaurant, one walking route, one weekend market, and one low-effort outing. Familiar places turn a new address into a home faster than a packed calendar. Finish residency and vehicle tasks using current state and county guidance, then keep all home, insurance, HOA, and closing documents together.

The practical takeaway: Do not try to learn all of Central Florida in a month. Build one dependable weekday routine and one enjoyable weekend routine first.
